THE DON: CHAPTER 3

"I'm still, of the night..." Harry was singing lying down on the floor at night thinking about the one year he had passed in the jail. No letters, no visitors, no contacts with someone outside, he had even forgotten why was he even in jail, all he had was Hobbie Brown who was leaving the cell the next day. Harry slowly closed his eyes and crawled into a deep sweet sleep. The next morning, Harry woke up to find Hobbie Brown in his cell, giving him a final hug before the release. "I am glad, you are free now," said Harry with a giggle, "Indeed I am, it was a pleasure to be friends with you," said Hobbie shaking hands with Harry. "Well, the pleasure was mine," said Harry, "Behave nicely, do your chores, and see the miracle, they might set you free soon!" said Hobbie when Harry nodded. Turning around Hobbie left the room but before leaving he reminded Harry, "I hope, you still remember that we had a deal?" "I do, and I'll do my best," said Harry. Hobbie left the jail that day and a car came to fetch him from the place. "Harry spent a few moments trying to figure out what Hobbie's business would be?" the other criminals in the prison would know who Hobbie Brown was, and they assumed Harry knows who Hobbie is, so they wouldn't communicate him the idea when one day, Harry finally enquired a fellow mate from the jail, about Hobbie's business. The prisoner initially was surprised that all this time, the man he was friends with and didn't know about his personality. It took Harry a week to digest that Hobbie Brown was the Don of Brooklyn crime family.

Harry's good behavior and leadership got him freedom in the next seven months and on his last day, all the prisoners made promises to their leader that they would help Harry in his worst's moments at any time he requires them. Harry before leaving reconciled with Grin too and made friends with him on his last day when Grin too promised to not keep a grudge and would help Harry any day he calls him. Harry was happy this day before he would leave. The next morning Harry was set free and back to his town, one year seven months, was a life-changing point in his life. Harry got back to the town when he went straight to his home to meet his sister when he learned that his sister has shifted to Queens along with Tom and Oliver for her safety. Harry then traveled to Queens where he finally found his sister along with his two friends. Seeing her brother back Elicia gave Harry a tight warm hug and Harry's eyes flooded with tears of joy.

"So, did they both bother you?" Harry asked following a burst of laughter on the dining table having dinner with his sister and friends. "Not at all, they took care of me like you do, especially Tom! Tom did everything for me that he could and never made me feel alone all this time!" Elicia replied leading Harry and Tom make a silent eye contact when Harry said, "Thank you Tom, for everything you did for her, " and Tom smiled. "You forgot me?" Oliver said in a cringe tone when Elicia and Tom started laughing and Elicia said, "Yes, Oliver also took care of me, Harry," and continued laughing, Harry laughed too. "Well, I forgot to tell you all, I have a job now!" said Harry, "Congratulations! how did you find one," said Oliver, Elicia and Tom looked confused on how could someone give a job so quickly to someone who had just been discharged from jail. "Well, I met this man in jail, and he offered me to join his business," said Harry, "Who was he?" asked Tom, "Don Hobbie Brown, the head of Brooklyn crime family," said Harry smiling, "Bloody hell! are you kidding?" Elicia shouted angrily for she never liked the idea of Harry getting involved in any sort of criminal or violent mafia activity. "I am sorry dear, I am really sorry, but I had to gather expenses somehow, I had no other option!" said Harry, and Elicia got up from the table and left. "She didn't like that," said Tom, and Oliver giggled a little, "I know what they would ask you to do there," said Oliver, "It's going to be easy, you are their recruit, they would give you contracts with the lead bodyguard of Don, and you would have to clean up the mess after every contract," said Oliver, "What contract?" Harry asked, "Contract killing idiot, you would join the head bodyguard or the hitman like my brother used to!" Oliver said. Harry got a bit dumbstruck after knowing that he would have to kill people for daily wages now. Elicia was upset with Harry for doing this but Harry somehow managed to reconcile with her and made a promise that he would deny Don if his job would involve killing someone.

The next morning Harry went straight to Brooklyn to a local bar where the Don had invited him. Hobbie was already waiting on a booth singing a song to himself when Harry greeted him bringing a smile to his face, "So nice to finally meet you young man!" said Hobbie and gave Harry a hug. Both of them ordered wine and began their conversation. "So, how have things been, how about your sister, is she fine?" Hobbie asked, "She is doing great indeed, how have you been?" Harry asked, "I am also good," "Well, so what can I do for you?" "Let's have a drink first shall we?" Hobbie insisted Harry have a drink before going any further. "I have one gun factory Harry, and two casinos in Las Vegas," said Hobbie, "I am making a lot of money out of them, and I know you also want to make some," "Of courses I do," Harry said, "After going to jail you have got a criminal status son, it won't be easy for you to get a job like that, but in our business, there is a lot of money and, a lot of criminal statuses too," said Hobbie in a low voice. "Well, there is true, how am I any good to you?" asked Harry, "Harry, you were a good friend of mine, and I had seen you fighting and you have what it takes to do this, so I am proposing you to become my chief hitman," said Hobbie Brown. Harry freaked out a little from inside but was calm on the outside, with a partially opened mouth he was looking at Hobbie and nodding his head. "Well, how can I deny you, I am glad to join you!" said Harry finally bonding with Hobbie who smiled and was happy to hear that, "I am glad Harry, you would be at the top one day, son, I promise you," Hobbie cheered his glass of wine with that of Harry.

A sixty-year-old man soon entered the bar walking towards an empty seat and settled down there and lighted up a cigarette for himself. Hobbie caught the sight of him and stood up walking up to the man with a smile. Harry saw him go to the man's seat and hug him tightly with a smile and greet him and then finally sit beside him. The two were happy to meet each other and this was evident from the wrinkles of joy on their face. Soon, Hobbie signaled Harry to come to him when Harry stood up with his glass of wine and walked to them. "This is my new friend, the name is Harry Hagen," said Hobbie to the man when Harry offered a hand to the man and the man shook his hand. "Harry, this is my friend, my mentor Don Vito, the head of crime family of Florida," Harry greeted the old man in front of him and took a seat. "So, you would work for Hobbie?" asked Vito, "Yes sir, I would," Harry answered, "But are you a good friend to him?" Vito proceeded, "He is Vito, we were together in jail for a year where he did miracles," said Hobbie following a giggle. "Would you like to work with us too?" "If you insist I will, I will be glad to work with you," said Harry, "But for that, we need to be good friends as you are to Hobbie, friendship brings trust and for your job, it's important that we trust you, and you trust us, Harry," said Vito. Harry nodded his head and starred into Vito's eyes which looked into Harry's for an answer, "Will you be my friend?" Harry said followed by offering Vito a hand and Vito smiled accepting it and shaking hands with him.

From this day, Harry's new life began. The bosses would give him small tasks initially and he would work on them for some money. Slowly and gradually he got contracts to kill people. The first man Harry ever killed in his life was Russel Brick, a traitor from Hobbie's casino. From that day Harry would do this job willfully. Killings would take place at night and warnings would be given in daylight. At night, Harry would approach his preys with one hand in his pocket and shoot his enemies very closely minimizing the sound of the gun and aiming at the heart of the person so they die in two or three shots, sometimes they would aim for the head. Harry was getting better at his job day by day and would travel Las Vegas, Florida, and Brooklyn in an attempt to do his job, not getting noticed was one part of his job which he was doing very smoothly. Harry made a whole lot of money doing this and bought a house for him and his sister in Brooklyn itself. Hobbie would many times visit their home for lunch and dinners and have a good treat, but, Harry's sister didn't like Hobbie in their house and Harry would notice, so he decided not to keep Elicia ever around Hobbie. Vito would visit Hobbie's house at times and whenever he would visit, it was his utmost desire to see his friend Harry Hagen, the hitman.

Five years passed like a train, and twenty-seven-year-old Harry Hagen wanted his sister to now to get married. Tom had built a good business in all these years and had his own home too. Elicia loved spending time with Tom and witnessing this Harry decided to get Elicia to marry Tom. The two soon engaged with the blessings of Harry, Hobbie, and Vito when they all agreed to be in their marriage too. Harry was happy to see his friend Tom marry his sister for Tom was a capable man in his sight, "A man with no purpose, is not a real man," Harry believed.

The Key to Deception

Jordan Kingsley was a man with some bad habits but a good sense of business. His fortune had afforded him many advantages, including various artifacts and awards that adorned his large hall. However, the most prized possession he had acquired in his lifetime was a set of ten rare beads, each worth a million dollars. This fact wasn't a secret among his acquaintances, who included his elder brother, Benjamin Kingsley, his wife, Harriet Kingsley, and their son, Clinton Kingsley. Unfortunately, Clinton was autistic, though remarkably creative, and Jordan felt a special bond with him, sponsoring his education out of genuine love rather than pity. Jordan was selective about those he let into his heart, reserving his true affection for those who earned it. This often excluded his own brother, his brother's wife, and even his business partners. Harriet, aware of Jordan's distant relationship with her son, made efforts to keep Clinton away from Jordan, fearing that the uncle's ...

CHAPTER SIX: THE FLAMES

MAYOR'S OFFICE  Gryffin Scout smoked heavily looking out of the window at the moon. "What are my orders sir," said a cop in the room, "I want to meet JJ Warren, as quick as possible, things are getting insane, I can't take further risks, let's see what he has to offer me, contact him tomorrow morning," said Scout.  THE WAREHOUSE From the window at the roof of the warehouse, a can of fuel fell to the floor, after which a matchstick fell, raising flames in the entire space. Warren looked at the rising flames anxiously when he ran to a corner saving himself from the rising flames approaching him. "Why are you doing this?" Warren shouted in a rage, "I will kill you JJ Warren, I promise you, this will be your end, and I am honored to kill such a worthy opponent tonight!" said the echo. "Leave my friends alone, they are innocent, don't hurt them!" shouted Warren, "They will die before you, I assure you of that, and this w...
