COLD WAR: CHAPTER 1

"In search of Double power, sometimes we lose our half." said retired Corporal Bill Mark. 72-year-old Mark's right leg had been not in function along with his right arm. His face, half burnt from the right side with his eyes gone red giving him a monster look to carry. "Don't be scared dear, I have now learned to live with it," said Mark to the interviewer and her team, who might have been frightened to see the half-dead old man going live on television tonight. "They say, losing or winning doesn't matter, but in our case it did." he continued.

"The story begins 51 years ago, the year 2031, the British and Japanese army were together for the first time in history. Heading towards our territory they had blown up the Russian base weeks ago, and now were in an attempt to take over our American base. But let me tell you where it starts. The American and Japanese governments signed a pact in the same year it was broken. The pact said that the American army would stay on the soil of Japan until their relations with Russia get better for the resources. But Japan intolerant bombed our 40 soldiers and the pact broke. Russia was obviously in cold relations with Japan for the supply of poor quality goods and their high taxes but now America decided to join hands with Russia. Silly! isn't it, two countries fighting over food and mobiles, but for us, it was death or victory. A few weeks later, Britain too joined Japan for they had cold relations with America over one small thing. Our president mocked their accent on national T.V. and that was enough to make their white faces go red.

It was the time of fall of the year and the cold winds had found their way. We were all in a fierce search of any evidence that would allow us to make sure that the Japanese were coming to our base. One night our minds blew up when one of us while sleeping woke up to see a Japanese undercover assassin in front of him. Waking up the corporal shouted when the assassin fled away in the cold air in no time. Our other soldiers reported there when he told everyone what he saw. After four days of the incident, we were still in a tightened positions for we knew, that enemy was within us now, when another soldier was found injured lying on the floor shouting for help. Gaining conscience he told us that he saw that assassin again. Our general Luke Darius appointed a team of seven soldiers to find and finish that assassin at any cost as early as possible. I was among them.

After two days of duty at the entrance of the base, I got attacked at night by the assassin, luckily I had a knife and a rifle with me. The assassin was trained and didn't speak anything at all. After a touch of a fight, I slew his knee with my knife. The blood began to gush out when in no time he ran away. I somehow saw him running when I started chasing him on his way but stopped in the mid when got whistle from the base. Coming back I told them about the assassin attacking me when the lieutenant said one thing, "Shut Up Mark! we already have an injured corporal from the attack of the assassin." I got goosebumps on hearing that like I fought him on the entrance and now you are telling me that he injured someone at the same time. How is that possible? how can someone be at two different places at the same time? General Luke was worried as they might bomb us when I spoke up. "Sir! I saw him running to the east of the ground and followed him till your whistle blew up," the general looked at me with a stare of giving responsibility when he ordered me to go find the zone they are hiding.

For real! me alone, a 21-year-old boy. How the hell am I going to find it. All I did was salute the general and fled away for finding the zone. Walking to the east of the war zone where I saw that idiot jumping, I headed. It was soon going to be morning when I entered a jungle. The jungle had one track leading up to a lake but beyond the lake there was ground and far off the ground there were Japanese soldiers with their trucks. A few American soldiers from the other camps were brought in the truck and were being taken out with a slap on their faces. Crawling on the ground I took my position with the rifle in my hands and headed towards the corner of the lake from where I took the baby steps to move forth. Crawling down the corners of the woods I saw the commotion of the soldiers going slow. Moving I found my way on the edge of their camp to where I ran and slew the first soldier I saw. killing him, I entered the zone wearing his uniform. Covering my face with bandages to show that I was injured I entered the zone. The camp was like a maze but I found my way.

From one door a sound was arriving my ears when I stuck my ears on the door to listen to what is going on. They were speaking in Japanese, and I seldom understood anything except for words like eliminate and machine. They were talking about some machine and laughing. Peeping into the keyhole the scene was frightening. The general with four soldiers was standing in a dark laboratory with our assassin but not one, they were two and the two were the same persons. Not twins but the same person twice. The machine in the conversation was also there and was something like a standing platform with a roof and big CPUs connected to it. And then the assassin stood on the platform with the other one and a scientist turned on the CPUs and the other assassin disappeared to a plastic model. The scene was jaw-dropping. This machine could create your duplicate from a plastic model. And this plastic model was built up by Japanese technology to copy your genetics and reflexes to create another version.

I was shocked after seeing the magic when I made a feeble sound of cheer outside the room but the sound reached the ears of the general, who got alarmed. What can you expect from a 21-year-old stupid and silly boy? I began to run after seeing the soldiers coming after me. The door opened and they saw me. Running outside I shot a few bullets but they somehow caught me taking me to the general. The thought that I would die tonight pulled the hell out of me.

The Key to Deception

Jordan Kingsley was a man with some bad habits but a good sense of business. His fortune had afforded him many advantages, including various artifacts and awards that adorned his large hall. However, the most prized possession he had acquired in his lifetime was a set of ten rare beads, each worth a million dollars. This fact wasn't a secret among his acquaintances, who included his elder brother, Benjamin Kingsley, his wife, Harriet Kingsley, and their son, Clinton Kingsley. Unfortunately, Clinton was autistic, though remarkably creative, and Jordan felt a special bond with him, sponsoring his education out of genuine love rather than pity. Jordan was selective about those he let into his heart, reserving his true affection for those who earned it. This often excluded his own brother, his brother's wife, and even his business partners. Harriet, aware of Jordan's distant relationship with her son, made efforts to keep Clinton away from Jordan, fearing that the uncle's ...

CHAPTER SIX: THE FLAMES

MAYOR'S OFFICE  Gryffin Scout smoked heavily looking out of the window at the moon. "What are my orders sir," said a cop in the room, "I want to meet JJ Warren, as quick as possible, things are getting insane, I can't take further risks, let's see what he has to offer me, contact him tomorrow morning," said Scout.  THE WAREHOUSE From the window at the roof of the warehouse, a can of fuel fell to the floor, after which a matchstick fell, raising flames in the entire space. Warren looked at the rising flames anxiously when he ran to a corner saving himself from the rising flames approaching him. "Why are you doing this?" Warren shouted in a rage, "I will kill you JJ Warren, I promise you, this will be your end, and I am honored to kill such a worthy opponent tonight!" said the echo. "Leave my friends alone, they are innocent, don't hurt them!" shouted Warren, "They will die before you, I assure you of that, and this w...
